Scholar program overview

Getting your foot in the product marketing door can be tough, which is why our scholar program was born.

Twice a year, we open the doors to 25 new or aspiring product marketers and put them through a part-time, 12-week program, to provide the foundations needed to get on the product marketing career ladder - for free.

By the end of the program, you’ll have an in-depth understanding of what product marketing is, how to actually do it, a portfolio of practical PMM work to show future employers, and the confidence required to ace your interview.

What happens after the application

headline

As you can imagine, we receive a lot of interest in this program year-round and so we only respond to successful candidates.

If you’re one of the lucky 25 though, you’ll hear from us within a couple of weeks of the closing dates with key info like:

  • When the program begins
  • The dates and times of your weekly workshops
  • What we need from you before day one.

Among a few other admin-y type bits.

At this point, we’ll need you to confirm whether you’re in.

The role of product marketing is varied and so our program is too. Each week, we’ll be honing in on the core skills and competencies required to nail the job, and there’ll be a real mix of self-paced, practical, and live elements to get involved with.

Remember, you get out what you put in.

We promise to put you in front of globally-known organizations, but only you can wow them. All your exams will be marked, practical tasks reviewed, and workshop involvement overseen by both us and your potential new boss, and this is where that ‘above and beyond’ attitude we mentioned earlier will pay off.

P.s. Our standards are high and this is reflected in our exam criteria. The pass rate is 75% across the board and anything lower than that doesn’t get you Product Marketing Certified, we’re afraid.

At the end of the program, you’ll be put into an exclusive recruitment pot with the rest of your scholars to be headhunted by orgs near and far.

To help them make their decision, we’ll be providing all hirers with your:

  • Exam score
  • Practical task
  • Attendance rate
  • Involvement in the weekly workshops
  • Salary expectations
  • Application video
  • CV and cover letter

FAQS

If you’re new to product marketing, it’ll upskill you in areas you might not have much experience in.

If you've been in the industry for a number of years, unfortunately, this program isn't for you - it's been created with people just starting out in their product marketing career in mind only.

Yep! As well as getting the seal of approval from orgs like HubSpot, TikTok, and Salesforce, Product Marketing Core is recognized by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) and Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

By completing the Product Marketing Scholar program, you gain a strong grasp of product marketing, get access to practical templates, and join a community of industry pros. It’s a great way to boost your confidence, skillset, and career prospects. You’ll also be put into an exclusive recruitment pot with the rest of your scholars to be headhunted by orgs near and far.

Each week will be a mix of your mentor going through the course content, you and your classmates asking questions (and getting answers!), practical tasks, and setting and going through coursework assignments.

If you want to be part of the exclusive recruitment pot with the rest of your scholars, then yes, you must submit all your coursework within two weeks of completing the program.

We totally understand that things sometimes come up, so we record all our sessions. That way, if you're unable to attend one week, you can still get access to all the content and Q&As, and find out about any coursework.

This is a part-time program over 12 weeks and we understand many of our scholars may have other commitments to juggle. It may vary slightly from week- to-week, but all in (including the certification materials, exams, and weekly mentor sessions) you’ll need to be able to commit to at least 2-2.5 hours each week.

This course is pretty darn comprehensive, if we do say so ourselves. From research through to optimization it covers the A to Z. However, as there are so many facets to product marketing, it’s very much more focused on the essentials.

If you fail the first time around you'll be given the option to retake the exam. If you fail the second attempt, unfortunately, it means you won’t get the certificate. However, all’s not lost – you’ll have still learned lots and you’ll be given access to the course materials for life, so you can brush up on the bits you slipped up on forevermore.

Yes, don’t be too disheartened if you’re not invited onto the program this time round, you can always apply again for the next intake!
