Every time someone new touches your messaging, whether it's a new hire, an agency, or a partner-seller, you end up re-explaining the same things: what to say, how to say it, and what to avoid.

This template fixes that. It's a polished, handoff-ready playbook that turns your messaging framework into copy blocks anyone can pick up and use, across campaigns, promotions, social, and partner comms.

What is a messaging playbook template?

A messaging playbook template is the external-facing companion to your messaging framework. The framework is where you think through your value proposition, audience, and tone; the playbook is what you hand to the people writing copy: PR agencies, social teams, partner-sellers, and anyone else who needs to sound like you without needing a briefing call.

It includes:

  • Core messaging: A value proposition, elevator pitch, and boilerplate
  • Tone of voice: Defined with adjectives and a before/after example, so it's unambiguous
  • Key messages & proof points: Your value pillars laid out pain point by pain point, with a slot for real customer proof
  • Copy blocks by channel: Social, email, and partner or marketplace listings, each with a format to adapt

Who is it for?

This template is built for product marketers, PR and comms teams, demand gen and campaign managers, social media managers, and PMMs who work with partner-sellers in marketplaces like AWS and Microsoft.

Anywhere your messaging needs to travel outside your own head, whether that's to an agency, a new team member, or a partner writing their own listing copy, this is the document that makes sure it arrives intact.

How to use the template

Think of this as step two. Step one is our ideal customer profile and messaging framework templates, where you do the thinking: who your customer is, what you offer them, and how you want to sound. This playbook is where that thinking becomes something usable. If you haven't built out your messaging framework yet, start there, then come back here to turn it into a deck your whole team can work from.

Getting started:

  1. Make a copy of the template.
  2. Bring over your core messaging from your messaging framework: value proposition, elevator pitch, and tone of voice.
  3. Build out your value pillars and proof points, backed by real results where you can.
  4. Write copy blocks for each channel your team actually uses, using the format prompts as a starting point.
  5. Fill in the guardrails slide so the do's and don'ts are as clear as the copy itself.

This is a starting point, not a fixed structure. Add slides for channels we haven't covered, cut ones you don't use, or expand the partner and marketplace section if that's a big part of your work. Make it match how your team actually operates.
